Couples therapy is to help you and your partner improve your relationship. Couples therapy can help you explore your relationship issues, navigate challenges throughout the early stage, and repair and rebuild your relationship if you have had issues. It can be helpful at any relationship stage, regardless of how long you have been together.
Couples therapy can address a wide range of relationship issues, including intimacy issues, feelings of disconnection, an affair, conflict resolution, or difficulties due to external stressors.
Not only can learning conflict resolution techniques help with your problems, but they can also strengthen your bond with your partner. There are also benefits in exploring your partner's attachment, relationship, and communication styles and how similar or different they are from yours.
How does it work? In a safe environment, we teach couples the necessary skills to develop critical self-awareness skills and analyze their strengths and, yes, weaknesses.
Our first session will be to meet and give each person equal time to share their thoughts, feelings and concerns surrounding the relationship. We will then meet individually for one session to provide you with an opportunity to discuss areas that are a priority and answer any questions we may have regarding your background and current mental health issues. Moving forward, your therapist will guide you through a collaborative plan focused on repairing, refocusing and reliving.
Couples therapy can help in many areas of your relationship. We have found that
identifying roles in the relationship that you and your partner play can assist in identifying unhealthy dynamics and addressing differences in expectations.
Time spent together and the quality and quantity have been typical relationship issues. Let's examine how to make time more fulfilling and manageable for both parties.
Finances can be a significant source of conflict in some relationships. It is essential to have open dialogue and organization around income and spending habits. Let us support you in having transparent and healthy conversations around such vital topics.
Issues related to sex and intimacy, sexual dysfunctions, menopause or infidelity can benefit from couples therapy. Sometimes, couples need help guiding the conversations towards areas they struggle to discuss; your therapist will be sensitive towards these areas and what they mean to you.
Perhaps you are not on the same page about children. Having them or not, adopting, fertility issues, or how you would like to raise them? Couples therapy can help with these concerns.
We can support you and your partner in working through health issues, conflicts and stresses from other family members.
Lastly, but importantly, dealing with physical or mental health illnesses can be difficult for you and your partner. Couples therapy can help you deal with the stress it may put on your relationship.
